Materials Research Society hosted a “Science As Art” competition

The local student chapter of Materials Research Society (MRS) in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee recently hosted the Fall 2023 “Science As Art” event. Undergraduate and graduate students from STEM departments were invited to contribute artistic presentations of their science. Six of these works were exhibited in Hodges Library over the fall semester, 2023. An awards ceremony was held on November 1st and two students advised by CRC Prof. David Harper won awards. MSE Master’s student Melanie Moczadlo won first place for her photo of nanofibrillated cellulose fibers titled, “Ghosts of Fibers Past.” MSE PhD student, Cotton Pekol won second place for his photo of a prismatic liquid crystal epoxy bridge titled, “The Prismatic Bridge.” Read more about the photos and see the other exhibits on MSE’s website.

The first place award went to “Ghosts of Fibers Past” by MSE MS student Melanie Moczadlo.
